A day in the life....

Thursday...what a GREAT day!  Thursday's are the day that I dedicate to being at church (except when business takes me out of town).

So I wake up around 6:00, get up, get ready for the day, make two cups of coffee (Americano's to be precise.  An Americano is espresso coffee mixed with hot water...and then to make it even better you add a bit of half & half to it....mmmmgoood!).  I make one cup for the drive (it takes about an hour for me to get to church in the morning) and one for the first hour or so at church.  I left home at 8:00 this morning.

On Thursday's, the staff always gets together to pray....love that!!  We pray for leaders in the world, in the AOG church for a local church, for the staff, for the deacons, for a key ministry group in the church, and for about ten families.  It is so fun to just lock in and listen to what God prompts you to pray for these people!

Then this morning we spent some time just sharing with one another about the things for which we are thankful (this came up because last Monday was Thanksgiving Day in Canada....and Pastor Jeff, our resident Canadian, shared a devotional about being thankful).  As we all listened to each other share what God has been doing, we sat in awe of how amazing God is.  He is at work is so many ways in so many people's lives.  It was just a wonderful time of refreshing to hear about the good things God is doing!

Then we had our weekly meeting with the Vision team for the church.  It is always good to sit with the other leaders and talk about where we have had success and where we can improve.  Our leadership team is an amazing group of people.  They carry so much responsibility but do it with so much grace and humility, it is just fun to be around them.  (My 30 years in ministry has allowed me to see a lot of ministry teams.  I think this leadership team is pretty cool!)  Keep them in your prayers!!

Then I spent the afternoon working with Pastor Justin on his strategy for small groups.  What a great time to hear his vision and see where small groups are going to go in the next year.  I sure hope you are in one!!

Then Cathy and I worked on Growth Track and Prayer Team Orientation.  Growth Track is this Saturday morning and we are ready for a bunch of people to learn more about RVC and their relationship with Christ.  Then we had Prayer Team Orientation tonight.  What a great group of people on our Prayer Teams.  And what a great opportunity to minister to people after weekend services.  As a member of Prayer Teams we have an opportunity to be a part of seeing God change a person's eternity....now how can that NOT be exciting!

I left church around 8:15 and got home a little after 9:00.  And now I am finishing off the day by sharing what a day in my life is like.  They are not all this full....but all of them are good.  This one was just a bit better than the average because I got to spend it with so many AMAZING people!

Books I have read

  • Michael Yaconelli: Messy Spirituality
The byline reads: "God's annoying love for imperfect people." That says it all! (****)
  • Moses: The Book of Genesis
I am reading through the Bible this year. Finished Genesis. So refreshing to re-read this amazing book. (*****)
  • Khaled Hosseini: A Thousand Splendid Suns
So inspired by his first book that I had to read the second one. (*****)
  • Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
Captivating story about two boys growing up in Afghanistan. Also out in theatres now. (*****)
